RULES & FAQ's
-
What are Action Cards and what do they do?An Action is what happens once a position is established. One a position is played, the player then begins their action sequence to either rack up points, or go for that submission. Remember, when your opponent plays a top action, you respond with a bottom action and vice versa. Scramble cards can get you out of any action (as long as it's not a Black Belt action)
-
What are Scramble cards and how do I use them?Use Scramble cards to disengage, escape or transition to a new Position card. These Scramble cards are considered “wild” and can be used with any color code after any Position or any Action. A new Position card must be used after every Scramble card. NOTE: You can play a Scramble card and defer to the next player to play a Position card. If no one wants to play a card then the battle ends, and points are tallied.
-
What are Position cards and how do I use them?Use Position cards are to define the position for your sequence of Actions. When a Position card is played an Action sequence of the same color must follow. Your opponent would then play Actions of the opposite position (either top or bottom) NOTE: Player must play at least one position card from their hand before grabbing a new position card from the deck. If a player grabs a position card from the deck, they must play it face up. You cannot play position cards back-to-back. An action card must follow a position card. If a scramble card is played, a new position card must follow.
-
What are Combate Cards, and how do I use them?Basically, it’s a Position wild card. Play any action card in your hand after this Combate position card to begin your new sequence.
-
What happens in case of a tie?In case of a tie, the match will go into over-time. Each player will draw 1 position and 3 more action cards. The player who placed the last card will have the option to go first and play off the latest card color or defer to the other player.
Rules of Engagement
To initiate a new battle with a player, both will start with 2 position cards, and 5 action cards. Decide who initiates the battle, or be first by playing a position card down followed by the sequence of actions.
To begin your battle sequence, a position card must be played FIRST to define the actions that will be played in your sequence.
Action cards are played based on your position. These cards are colored coordinated to display the position of that card.
In the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, there’s always a top position playing against a bottom position or vice versa. Striped colored cards are considered bottom positions and solid colored cards are represented as top positions. If a person plays a solid colored card, the opponent would play a striped card of the same color.
EXAMPLE:
If Player 1, places a solid blue Position card. Their following card must be a solid blue action card. If P1 does not have a solid blue action they can end their turn. Player 2 will then have to play a blue/white striped card for their action. If P2 does not have a blue/white striped action card, they can play a scramble card to start a new position of any color. If neither a scramble card nor a blue/white action card is available, then P2 ends their turn. If there aren’t any more playable cards between the players, the match ends and the points are tallied. The person with the most points in their sequence wins.
You can play multiple action cards together and transition to new positions to accumulate points based on their color code. Player one’s turn ends when they are either satisfied with their movement or cannot move any further based on the card colors they have in hand.
Once P1 has played their sequence, P2 plays an action card based from P1’s last card. For example, if P1 plays a solid purple card (top side control) P2 must play a striped purple action card (bottom side control). P2 also has the option to play a Scramble card to escape or transition to a new position. (A new position must be played after every Scramble card).
The battle ends when players cannot play or chain anymore cards. Each player lays down their played cards in front of them. Points are tallied from the cards laid down and whoever has the most points wins the match. Players can also win by tap-out if they cannot escape or defend a submission regardless of who is ahead in points. Just like Jiu-Jitsu!
Winner receives a Black Belt card as their reward. Black belt cards can also be used in a battle and cannot be countered with a normal action card. Only Black Belt cards can counter them.
BATTLE CARDS
There are 3 types of cards that can be used during a battle.
POSITION CARDS:
-
Position cards are used to define a position of where the battles begin. There are position cards with positive and negative values. Just like Jiu Jitsu, you earn or lose points based on your position. (mount, side-control, back mount, take downs)
-
Combate Cards: Basically, it’s a Position wild card. Play any action card after this position to begin your sequence.
ACTION CARDS:
-
Submissions: Players use this action to end a match and requires the opponent to play an action card. Your opponent can escape or sweep if they have the proper card. If they cannot play any action card, they “tap-out” or lose the battle. These cards are color coded and must be used with the proper position color code.
-
Sweeps/Takedowns/Guard passes: Player can use these actions to transition to a new position or earn additional points in the match. Points will be displayed on the card. These cards are color coded and must be used with the proper color code/position.
-
Scramble Cards: Disengages, escapes or transitions to a new position. Transitioning to new positions can earn you additional points. But beware; you can also lose points if you’re not careful. These cards are considered “wild” and can be used with any color code after any position or any action. Note: a new position card must be used after every Scramble card.
BLACK BELT CARDS:
-
Black Belt cards are very exclusive Action Cards, you must win a match to get a Black Belt card. They can be used during your sequence to score bigger points and/or finish a match. All other actions cards (including scramble cards) are powerless to Black Belt cards. Only Black Belt cards can be used to play other black belt cards. These cards work as action cards, but much more powerful.
-
Berserker Cards: Berserker cards are used as power up submission cards or wild escapes. To power up submissions, use a normal submission card and place this card for added power. Only a black belt card can counter.
Shark Tank
MULTI-PLAYER MODE
This mode is playable with more than 2 people and provides a longer game play. Each player is given 3 position cards and 6 action cards.
In this scenario, players combat the player who is in control. No need to decide who initiates the match, first player to lay their sequence of cards may start the game.
Once P1 is done, the other players race to play their next card or sequence. If an action is placed down, it is an action against everyone who is playing. If P1 places a position card in guard top, then P2, P3, and P4 are in guard bottom, and must play like they are in guard bottom.
EXAMPLE:
P1 plays a submission action; P2, P3, or P4, can place down a card to counter it. If P2, P3, and P4 do not have a card to counter the action, the game ends. But if P2 has a capable card to counter, P3 and P4 are safe.
When playing in “Shark Tank” mode, it’s everyone against the player that is in control, or the player that is winning the battle.
If a player plays a submission card, essentially that person is submitting everyone in the game. Players must decide who will play to counter, or all will lose the match.
For example, if I begin to chain my techniques and I end my turn, the opposing players can choose amongst themselves to play based on their cards against me. There is no order to who goes first or plays next. The player to react first to the sequence can play. And if no one can play after the sequence, the player with the most points wins the match.
